Your plants need the exact nutrient concentration to reach their full genetic potential. The two most important adjustment screws for this are the EC and pH values.  <\/p>\n<h3>The EC value: The perfect fuel mixture<\/h3>\n<p>The EC value (Electrical Conductivity) is nothing more than a measure of the amount of dissolved salts \u2013 i.e., fertilizer \u2013 in your irrigation water. It is the direct indicator of the \u201cstrength\u201d of your nutrient solution. If set incorrectly, it leads to either malnutrition or nutrient burn.  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Seedlings & cuttings:<\/strong> Here, less is more. An EC value of <strong>0.8 to 1.3 mS\/cm<\/strong> protects the delicate roots. <\/li>\n<li><strong>Growth phase:<\/strong> The plant gains mass and is hungrier. We gradually increase to <strong>1.3 to 1.8 mS\/cm<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li><strong>Flowering phase:<\/strong> Now most of the energy is needed for flower production. Values between <strong>1.6 and 2.2 mS\/cm<\/strong> are ideal. <\/li>\n<li><strong>Flushing phase:<\/strong> In the last one to two weeks, only clear, pH-regulated water (EC approx. 0.4-0.6 mS\/cm) is used for watering to flush out salt residues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pro tip:<\/strong> Don\u2019t just measure the irrigation water (input), but especially the drain (output). If the EC value of the drain rises sharply above that of the input, it\u2019s an alarm signal for salt accumulation in the substrate. Now it\u2019s time to flush before a lockout occurs.  <\/p>\n<h3>The pH value: The suspension for maximum nutrient uptake<\/h3>\n<p>You can have the best fertilizer in the world \u2013 if the pH value isn\u2019t right, the plant can\u2019t absorb it. The <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PH-Wert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pH value<\/a> is like the suspension of a racing car: it puts the power on the road, or in our case, the nutrients into the roots. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Growing in soil:<\/strong> Soil is more forgiving as it has a natural buffering effect. A window of <strong>6.0 to 7.0<\/strong> is optimal. <\/li>\n<li><strong>Growing in coco\/hydro:<\/strong> There are no buffers here. Precision is mandatory. The target range is narrower and more acidic: <strong>5.5 to 6.5<\/strong>. Most pros aim for a value around 5.8.   <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An incorrect pH value leads to nutrient lockouts. The plant shows deficiency symptoms (e.g., yellow leaves) even though there are enough nutrients in the medium. Likewise, a cannabis plant cannot survive in a wet, compacted substrate.
