Questions about the DrainMaster

What can I do if my pots are too big for the DrainMaster?

If your plant pots with a base size of more than 24 x 24 cm are too large for our DrainMaster Drip Stand, we have good news for you: there are practical solutions to get around this problem! One option is to choose pots that are tapered towards the bottom. These specially shaped pots fit perfectly on the DrainMaster’s footprint and offer more space for your plants at the top – and yes, they also come in a square shape!

An alternative and perhaps even better idea is to use a conventional coaster. Simply drill a few holes in the saucer, place your plant pot on top and place the whole thing on the DrainMaster. This method ensures that excess water leaking from larger pots is effectively collected in the DrainMaster’s tray and does not run off. This keeps your home clean and your plants optimally cared for.

Airpots auf DrainMaster mit Untersetzer Trick

Yes, you can of course place several pots on the DrainMaster at the same time, as long as they fit together on the specified installation area of 24 x 24 cm. This flexibility allows you to work efficiently and supply several plants at once.

However, if you have a larger number of small pots, we recommend that you consider purchasing several DrainMaster Drip Stands. This is particularly practical if you have more than 20 plants. By using several DrainMasters, you can speed up the watering process considerably and make the best use of your time.

Mehr als ein Topf auf dem DrainMaster

For all those who use our DrainMaster system in a 3×3 setup in their grow box, for example, we have good news: The emptying and maintenance of the trays, even with the rear stands, is well thought out and user-friendly.

Rotate or pull out: The DrainMaster and its trays are designed so that you can easily rotate the tray under the stand to access and empty it without having to move the entire stand. If a bowl is placed directly behind another stand, it can simply be pulled out. This flexibility makes it easy to reach and empty any tray in your setup without disturbing your plants or having to reconfigure them.

Hose connection for easy emptying: The hose connection offers another practical solution. With the option of connecting a hose and attaching it with quick connectors, you can drain the water directly and easily. This is particularly useful to ensure clean and efficient emptying without affecting the plants or the structure.

We understand that some of you would like a larger version of the DrainMaster Drip Stand to give you even more flexibility when caring for your plants. We are aware of the idea of a larger version and have already thought about expanding our product portfolio in this direction.

At this stage, however, we are unable to give an exact date for the launch of a larger version of the DrainMaster. The development of new products requires significant financial investment and careful planning. We are currently concentrating on ensuring the quality and availability of our standard size in order to meet the needs of the majority of our customers.

However, we would like to encourage you to use the existing possibilities of our DrainMaster. As mentioned in “What can I do if my pots are too big for the DrainMaster?”, there are practical solutions for using larger pots effectively on the DrainMaster Drip Stand. Through creative adaptations, such as the use of a modified saucer, you can also use the advantages of the DrainMaster for larger planters.

We very much appreciate the feedback and suggestions from our community and will keep you informed as soon as the possibility of a larger version materializes. Until then, we will be happy to provide advice and support to help you make the best possible use of the current DrainMaster range.

Wondering what exactly you get when you order a DrainMaster set? We want to make sure that you know exactly what to expect when your parcel arrives. Here is a clear overview:

Each DrainMaster set is carefully put together to provide you with everything you need for optimal drainage of your plants. The set includes:

  • The DrainMaster Drip Stand: The heart of our system, designed for efficient drainage and measurement of EC and pH values to perfect your plant care.
  • The bowl: An essential part of every set. The tray catches the run-off water and enables clean and precise monitoring. Their presence in every set underlines our claim to provide a comprehensive solution for your plants.

Please note: If you decide to order a single DrainMaster, please note that it is supplied without the bowl.

A frequently asked question concerns the decision between using our drip tray or a drain hose under the DrainMaster. Both options have their advantages, but most of our customers prefer the drip tray for good reasons.

Advantages of the drip tray:

  • Simple collection and measurement: The collection tray allows you to conveniently collect and analyze the drainage water. This is particularly useful for monitoring the nutritional status of your plants. By measuring the EC and pH values in the drainage water, you can obtain valuable information about the requirements of your plants.
  • Easy to use: The tray makes it easy to meet the needs of your plants without having to carry out complex installations.

Advantages of the drain hose:

  • Automatic drainage removal: For advanced users who want a circulating system or automatic removal of the drainage water, the hose connection offers a practical solution.
  • Extended application possibilities: The hose allows drainage to be fed directly into a larger collection system, which can be beneficial in certain growing scenarios.

For starters and most applications, we recommend the drip tray. It offers you the flexibility to easily organize your plant care and at the same time gain important insights into the water and nutrient balance of your plants. However, if you have specific requirements or are an advanced user, the drain hose can be an interesting alternative.

Regular and proper cleaning of your DrainMaster Drip Stand is essential to ensure its longevity and functionality and to keep your plants healthy. Here is a simple guide on how to clean your DrainMaster effectively and safely:

  1. Basic cleaning with water: Start with a basic cleaning by rinsing the Drip Stand and the bowl under running water. This removes loose dirt particles and residual water. For more thorough cleaning, you can also use a soft sponge or cloth.

  2. Removing limescale stains: For stubborn limescale stains, a mild acid such as citric acid can work wonders. Dissolve some citric acid in water and use this solution to carefully clean the affected areas. Then rinse thoroughly with water to remove acid residues.

  3. Disinfection: You can use commercially available disinfectants to disinfect your DrainMaster. Make sure that the product is plant-compatible so as not to damage your plants. Spray the disinfectant onto the Drip Stand and the bowl and leave it to work according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Then rinse thoroughly with water.

  4. Drying: After cleaning and disinfecting, allow the DrainMaster and the bowl to air dry before using them again. This prevents the formation of bacteria or mold in damp areas.

Regular and proper care of your DrainMaster will ensure that it serves you faithfully for a long time and keeps your plants in top condition.

Controlling nutrients is crucial to get the best out of your plants. With the DrainMaster Drip Stand, you can easily and effectively measure the EC (electrical conductivity) and pH value in the drainage water to monitor the nutrient content and acid-base balance in the substrate of your plants. Here’s how to carry out precise nutrient control:

Step 1: Observe the EBBE phase
Wait until the substrate of your plant is almost dry. You can recognize this by the fact that the plant pot becomes noticeably lighter. This is a sign that it is time for the next watering.

Step 2: FLUT – Water your plant
Water the plant with a prepared water-fertilizer mixture (for example with an EC value of 900µS) until the substrate is completely saturated and excess water is collected in the DrainMaster drip tray.

Step 3: Measuring the EC value
Carefully pull out the drip tray and use an EC meter to measure the conductivity of the drainage water. This measurement gives you information about the nutrients dissolved in the water.

Step 4: Evaluation and adjustment
Evaluate the measured EC value (for example, a target value could be 2000µS). If the value is too high, you should reduce the amount of fertilizer the next time you water. In the event of significant deviations, rinsing with fertilizer-free water (e.g. EC value 300µS) may also be necessary. If the value is too low, increase the amount of fertilizer slightly the next time you water.

Step 5: Documentation and repetition
Record your observations and adjustments in writing. This helps you to keep an overview and continuously improve the care of your plants. Then wait for the next EBBE phase before repeating the process.

With this method you can ensure that your plants are always optimally supplied with nutrients. The DrainMaster Drip Stand makes it easy to make the necessary adjustments to keep your plants growing healthy and strong.
