24h Nürburgring 2026. Three partners, one start.
From the Racetrack to the Grow Tent: Why Motorsport and Cannabis Cultivation Are the Same Game
Our Cannabis Motorsport Sponsoring is much more than just a clever marketing move; it’s the perfect metaphor for the precision that distinguishes professional indoor cultivation from a mere hobby. On the racetrack, teams fight for tenths of a second, decided by tire pressure, chassis settings, and fuel mixture. In our grow tents, we fight for that last percent of yield and quality, decided by the perfect pH value, the exact EC point, and irrigation timing. Our Cannabis Motorsport Sponsoring shows that in both worlds, only those who know, measure, and optimize their data win.
The hunt for the last percent
If you drive on the race track by feel, you’ll fly off the curve. If you water and fertilize in the grow tent by feel, you waste potential or risk a total failure. The parallel is striking: a racing driver analyzes telemetry data to find the perfect line. A grower analyzes the measurements of their nutrient solution and drainage water to ensure the perfect nutrient supply for their plants. It’s a game of fine adjustments where intuition meets hard facts.
Our Team at the Start: 24h Classic 2026
This is precisely why we are bringing these two worlds together. We, the team from DrainMaster and Growlagerverkauf Iserlohn, are proud to sponsor Jan Heimbach at the legendary 24-hour endurance race in the Eifel from May 13 to 17, 2026. Our driver will compete in the highly competitive V5 displacement class with a Porsche Cayman. Jan embodies the precision and ambition that we also see in every successful grower. He relies on his team and his data – just like we do.
The Setup is Crucial: Nutrient Control Like in Motorsport
A racing engine needs the exact air-fuel ratio to deliver maximum performance. Your plants need the exact nutrient concentration to reach their full genetic potential. The two most important adjustment screws for this are the EC and pH values.
The EC value: The perfect fuel mixture
The EC value (Electrical Conductivity) is nothing more than a measure of the amount of dissolved salts – i.e., fertilizer – in your irrigation water. It is the direct indicator of the “strength” of your nutrient solution. If set incorrectly, it leads to either malnutrition or nutrient burn.
- Seedlings & cuttings: Here, less is more. An EC value of 0.8 to 1.3 mS/cm protects the delicate roots.
- Growth phase: The plant gains mass and is hungrier. We gradually increase to 1.3 to 1.8 mS/cm.
- Flowering phase: Now most of the energy is needed for flower production. Values between 1.6 and 2.2 mS/cm are ideal.
- Flushing phase: In the last one to two weeks, only clear, pH-regulated water (EC approx. 0.4-0.6 mS/cm) is used for watering to flush out salt residues.
Pro tip: Don’t just measure the irrigation water (input), but especially the drain (output). If the EC value of the drain rises sharply above that of the input, it’s an alarm signal for salt accumulation in the substrate. Now it’s time to flush before a lockout occurs.
The pH value: The suspension for maximum nutrient uptake
You can have the best fertilizer in the world – if the pH value isn’t right, the plant can’t absorb it. The pH value is like the suspension of a racing car: it puts the power on the road, or in our case, the nutrients into the roots.
- Growing in soil: Soil is more forgiving as it has a natural buffering effect. A window of 6.0 to 7.0 is optimal.
- Growing in coco/hydro: There are no buffers here. Precision is mandatory. The target range is narrower and more acidic: 5.5 to 6.5. Most pros aim for a value around 5.8.
An incorrect pH value leads to nutrient lockouts. The plant shows deficiency symptoms (e.g., yellow leaves) even though there are enough nutrients in the medium. It simply cannot utilize them.
Pit stop and track conditions: Water, drainage, and the right substrate
No race is won on a flooded track. Likewise, a cannabis plant cannot survive in a wet, compacted substrate. Oxygen at the roots is just as important as water.
The race track of the roots: Substrate and drainage
The substrate is the race track of your roots. It must provide support but also manage air and water optimally. To avoid waterlogging in cannabis, excellent drainage is essential. A share of 20-30% perlite in your soil or coco mix is basically the standard to keep the medium loose and airy. Waterlogging inevitably leads to root rot, the creeping death of every plant. Good management of irrigation and drainage is the key to avoiding root rot.
Timing in the pit lane: The art of correct irrigation
The most common mistakes in growing happen during watering. Both overwatering cannabis and underwatering cannabis lead to drooping leaves and stress. Forget rigid watering schedules. Learn to feel the weight of your pots. Only water when the pot has become significantly lighter.
The golden rule is the “drain-to-waste” principle: Water slowly and enough until about 10-20% of the water amount runs out the bottom as drainage. This ensures that the entire substrate is evenly moistened and old salts are flushed out at the same time. With a professional DrainMaster irrigation system, this process becomes clean, easy, and precise. This way you can collect and measure the drain without having to laboriously handle the pots in the shower.
On the home stretch: How our team puts precision into practice
The connection between our Cannabis Motorsport Sponsoring and your grow box is data-driven optimization. It’s about replacing guesswork with knowledge.
Jan drives, we measure: Telemetry on the track and in the tent
After every lap, Jan Heimbach receives data on tire temperature, brake pressure, and engine performance. Based on this telemetry, his team decides on the next pit stop or a change to the setup. You are the race engineer for your plants. Your measurements for pH and EC in the drain are your telemetry. They tell you exactly what is happening in the root zone and what your plant needs next. This philosophy of precision is the core of our Cannabis Motorsport Sponsoring project.
